Key Players helps you identify the parties, law firms, and attorneys that appear most often in a selected set of patent cases. Use it to see who is most active in a particular forum, court, technology, time period, or side of a dispute.
What it tells you
Section titled “What it tells you”Key Players ranks parties, law firms, or attorneys by the number of matching patent cases in which they appear.
The ranking gives you a quick view of litigation activity and experience within the segment of patent litigation you are researching.
Questions it can answer
Section titled “Questions it can answer”- Which parties are most active in a particular area of patent litigation?
- Which law firms appear in the most cases in a selected forum or court?
- Which attorneys have the most experience with cases involving a particular patent technology?
- Who appears most often for patentees or patent challengers?
- How does the set of leading participants change when I narrow the date range or other criteria?
How to interpret the analysis
Section titled “How to interpret the analysis”Key Players ranks participants by case activity within the cases that match your selected criteria.
A higher position means the party, law firm, or attorney appears in more matching cases. The ranking measures frequency of participation, not litigation success.
For law firms and attorneys, you can also choose whether to include local counsel in the analysis.
Filters and defaults
Section titled “Filters and defaults”Use the available controls to focus the ranking on the patent litigation most relevant to your research. You can refine the analysis by criteria such as:
- litigation forum
- court
- party role
- case filing date
- patent technology
- local counsel
- ANDA status
Changing these filters changes the cases used to produce the ranking.
Reading the results
Section titled “Reading the results”Results are shown as a ranked table with the participant name and number of matching cases.
Use the ranking to compare relative activity within the selected case population. For example, a law firm near the top of a technology-specific ranking has appeared in more matching cases than firms listed below it.

Important considerations
Section titled “Important considerations”Key Players measures activity, not performance. A high case count does not indicate a higher win rate or greater success in those matters.
The ranking also depends on the filters you apply, so compare participants within the context of the selected case population.
