How Docket Navigator Connect works with your organization's AI provider platform, what it can access in your account, how groups enable it, and how to verify results.
Docket Navigator Connect is an add-on service available with a Docket Navigator subscription and enabled for Docket Navigator group accounts. It connects your Docket Navigator account to your organization’s AI provider platform, so you can carry out Docket Navigator research by describing the work in your own words.
With Connect enabled, you can ask for the decisions, motion outcomes, judge history, party track records, patent litigation history, and daily filing activity you need, and receive an answer built from Docket Navigator’s structured, hand-coded litigation data with links back to the underlying source material.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”Three parties have distinct roles.

You define the research or business question and evaluate the result.

Your organization’s AI provider platform interprets the request, calls Docket Navigator research tools, and composes the response.

Docket Navigator provides the structured data, editorial coding, profiles, saved searches, binders, alerts, and source links available through Connect. Docket Navigator does not review or approve the responses your AI provider platform generates.

You review the answers.
What Docket Navigator contributes
Section titled “What Docket Navigator contributes”The value of Connect comes from what sits behind the answer. Depending on the question, your AI provider platform can draw on:
- Hand-coded legal issues and procedural classifications
- Motion outcomes and decision results
- Patent determinations, remedies, and claim constructions
- Accusation, case, party, and firm outcomes
- Judge, court, party, firm, attorney, case, and patent profiles
- Cross-case and cross-forum relationships across district courts, the PTAB, and the ITC
- Editorial annotations and pinpoint references
- Your saved binders, searches, and alerts
- Deep links into Docket Navigator
This is what separates a Connect answer from ordinary keyword retrieval. You describe the problem in legal terms, and the AI provider platform works against Docket Navigator’s coded structure instead of searching text.
What the AI platform can and cannot do in your account
Section titled “What the AI platform can and cannot do in your account”When you authorize the connection, Docket Navigator displays the permissions being requested.
The AI provider platform will be able to:
- Search your dockets, documents, and litigation data
- Create and edit binders and alerts on your behalf
- Open pages in Docket Navigator
The AI provider platform will be unable to:
- Delete data
- Change your account settings
- Take action on behalf of other users
Research actions are read-only. Creating or editing a binder or alert changes saved Docket Navigator state, and those actions happen when you ask for them. A useful habit is to treat saving as an explicit instruction: “Save this research to a Docket Navigator binder.”
Each user authenticates with their own Docket Navigator account, so results reflect that user’s own access and permissions. Sign-in uses an authorization flow that does not give the AI provider platform your Docket Navigator password.
Availability and access
Section titled “Availability and access”Connect is an add-on service for Docket Navigator subscribers, and it is subscribed to at the group level. When a Docket Navigator group adds Connect to a library, every member of that group is entitled to it. Connect cannot be purchased or assigned for a subset of the members of a group.
Getting to a working connection involves up to four stages, because two separate organizations are involved: your Docket Navigator group controls who is entitled to use Connect, and your AI provider platform’s organization controls which connectors are available inside it.

Supported AI provider platforms

Custom MCP connection details for beta platforms are provided through email to participants after they are added to the program.
Managing or removing access
Section titled “Managing or removing access”Three controls exist at three levels.
- Individual user: disconnect from the AI & Integrations page in Docket Navigator.
- Docket Navigator group administrator: disable the integration for the entire group from the AI & Integrations page.
- AI platform administrator or individual user: disconnect or remove the Docket Navigator connector through that platform’s connector settings.
Disabling the integration for the group removes access for everyone in it, including users who have already authorized their own connection.
Verify important results
Section titled “Verify important results”Docket Navigator gives you a path from any statement back to the record it came from. Use it before an important proposition leaves your desk.
- Open the cited Docket Navigator source.
- Confirm that the source supports the description you were given.
- Check any factual, doctrinal, procedural, or statistical distinction that matters to your assignment, including the date range, denominator, and comparison population behind any statistic.
- Work from the underlying source material for anything that will appear in work product or client-facing material.
Asking follow-up questions is part of this. “Why is this decision included?”, “What did the court actually say?”, and “Where does this figure come from?” all return you to Docket Navigator data.
